AUSA is a private, nonprofit, educational Association of individual, business and organization members dedicated to supporting and maintaining a strong national defense with emphasis on the role of the United States Army. AUSA supports the needs and interests of all components of the Total Army - Active Duty, Army Reserve, National Guard, Department of the Army civilians, retirees and family members.

Nationally: Being the voice for all components of America’s Army, fostering public support of the Army’s role in national security, and providing professional education and information programs.

PROGRAM OF MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE OPERATIONAL YEAR
1 JULY 2011 TO 30 JUNE 2012
REDSTONE-HUNTSVILLE CHAPTER GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
- Maintain Chapter of Excellence and President’s Club status, remain competitive for Best Chapter
- Surpass AUSA National’s Individual Membership goal of 2550 members and achieve and sustain a goal of 3,000 Members
- Maintain Chapter Corporate Membership goal of 300 Members
- Implement AUSA National’s professional and educational objectives through focused Chapter programs
- Develop Chapter programs and activities that benefit our Chapter Members, AUSA and the U.S. Army
- Expand programs/activities supporting DA Civilians, Army National Guard, Army Reserve and Army ROTC/JROTC
- Expand Army Family Programs Activities encompassing Active, Reserve and National Guard Soldiers and Units
- Support Anniston Satellite Chapter, and continue progress toward establishment of ROTC AUSA Companies at University of North Alabama, Alabama A&M University, and Jacksonville State University.
- Explore options to establish additional Satellite Chapters in Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama
- Strengthen Huntsville/Madison County community support for the Army and AUSA
- Expand activities supporting Army Recruiting
to include the Community Outreach initiative
- Continue to partner with Redstone Arsenal MWR, Still Serving Vets and Veterans Fraternal Coalition to support the Army family.
- Seek opportunities to support HQ AMC, USASAC and other organizations as they relocate to Redstone Arsenal
- Continue outreach and support for the Tut Fann State Veterans Home
- Pursue a program to connect the Chapter with deployed troops and units
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES:
1) Monthly Activities:
a) Executive Committee* (EXCOM): The EXCOM meets the third Tuesday of each month at 1600 at LESCO Headquarters
b) Executive Board* (EXBOD): The EXBOD meets the Friday following the EXCOM at 0730.
2) Membership Activities:
a) General Membership Meetings* (3 per year minimum required):

d) Annual Meeting Welcome Home Huntsville community reception – November 2011
e) Department of the Army Civilian of the Year Dinner –April 2012

d) Corporate Member Appreciation Reception – Each December the Chapter hosts its Corporate Member representatives at a holiday reception to show our appreciation for all that they do in support of Chapter activities.
e) Chapter maintains Hospitality Suite in Washington, DC during the Annual Meeting for the benefit of its members and their guests.
c) Sporting Event Buyout Nights: As chapter finances allow, we provide tickets and coordinate transportation for Redstone Arsenal Soldiers to attend local college / professional sporting events (UAHuntsville Hockey, Huntsville HAVOC hockey, Huntsville Stars baseball, Alabama Hammers Arena Football, Rocket City United soccer).
7) Veterans Recognition Programs/Activities:
a) Veterans Day Celebration Activities: The Chapter co-sponsors the Veterans Day Dinner and Madison County Hall of Heroes induction ceremony held on 10 November each year and the Veterans Day Parade held at 1100 on 11 November. Chapter tasks include coordinating ROTC/JROTC marching units and distributing flags along the 2(+)-mile parade route. Chapter supports or co-hosts other community activities associated with Veterans Day – including a Veterans Day Breakfast preceding the parade.
b) Memorial Day Observances: The Chapter organizes and co-sponsors a Memorial Day Observance with the North Alabama Veterans Coalition and participates by placing an AUSA Wreath at the Veterans Memorial Observance Ceremonies held in Maple Hill Cemetery (Huntsville) each year. The Chapter also supports requests for speakers from surrounding communities.
c) Wreaths for Veterans: The Chapter makes an annual contribution to purchase wreaths for the graves of Veterans at local cemeteries during December each year.
8) Soldier Family Recognition Programs/Activities:
a) Army Community Services (ACS) Support: The Chapter provides a monetary contribution of $1,000 annually to support Survivor Outreach Services (SOS), a program organized under ACS.
b) Redstone Arsenal MWR’s annual Month of the Military Child. The Chapter provides a $500 contribution to MWR to offset expenses in conducting its annual block party and related activities.
c) Operation Christmas Bear. The Chapter co-sponsors with the Veterans Coalition at the Cahaba Shrine a day of activities and gifts for families of deployed Soldiers. A $1,000 contribution is made to help offset event expenses.
d) Welcome Home at Huntsville Airport for deployed Soldiers. The Chapter and the Veterans Coalition organize Welcome Home celebrations for units and individual Soldiers returning from deployments.
9) Department of the Army Civilian Program: Chapter hosts the DA Civilian of the Year Award Dinner where recognition is given to DAC winners selected from three categories from nominations from all Team Redstone Commands and Activities. The DA Civilian of the Year Awards Dinner is held in April with the winner nominated for 3d Region (and National) competition.
10) Chapter Support to ROTC and JROTC Programs:
a) ROTC / JROTC Leadership Awards: AUSA National makes available Leadership Medals and Certificates for JROTC and ROTC cadets and a History Award for ROTC cadets selected by the High School or University cadre. If feasible a Chapter Member presents the award(s) at the unit’s ceremony along with a one year membership in AUSA, a Chapter Coin and a cash award (JROTC cadets receive a $25, ROTC cadets receive $50.)
b) Chapter aggressively recruits and recognizes local ROTC and JROTC Programs representing all branches of Service to participate in the annual Veterans Day Parade in Huntsville and neighboring cities. Each participating program receives a donation of $100 to help defray costs associated with their transportation and other costs.
c) Chapter supports the annual JROTC Drill Competition and Sports Competition Day hosted by the Alabama A&M University ROTC Program.
d) If possible, Chapter Representative attends Commissioning and Awards Day Ceremonies for Alabama A&M University, University of Northern Alabama, Jacksonville State University, Tuskegee University, University of Alabama and Auburn University-Montgomery.
e) A Chapter Representative meet directly with Alabama A&M, University of North Alabama and Jacksonville State to foster close working relationships.
11) Special Programs / Activities:
a) Huntsville/Madison County Chamber Armed Forces Celebration Week during May/June: The Chapter co-hosts with the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce this weeklong series of events. Activities include: a sporting event Military Appreciation Night, a Concert in the Park featuring a military band, US Army Soldier Shows (2-3 performances), and an AUSA Golf Tournament. The Chapter co-chairs the Armed Forces Week Luncheon in even years (2012) and chairs the Armed Forces Week Salute Gala Dinner in odd numbered years (2013).
b) Army Birthday/Flag Day/General Membership Meeting/Reception / Dinner: A key general membership meeting with Soldiers, senior military and civilian personnel, and community civic leaders as attendees.
c) Installation of Chapter Officers: Past chapter presidents are recognized. Installation of new Chapter officers and Board members is conducted in June each year.
d) First Sergeant John Ordway Leadership Award: The Chapter presents its 1SG John Ordway Leadership Awards to winning Active Component, Reserve and National Guard First Sergeants in the Chapter area.
e) AUSA Missiles Conference (formerly the Tactical Missiles Conference): This unique Chapter event is a forum for Industry and Government acquisition and operational leaders to share updates on all tactical missile programs, facilitate better industry response to Army needs and allow the Government to outline technology investment strategies. The Chapter organizes the event with the Program Executive Office for Missiles and Space. 2012 will be our 14th annual
conference. The Chapter hosts a golf tournament as part of the Conference as a fundraiser.
f) AUSA Annual Meeting (Washington, DC): Chapter activities include: the Chapter Hotel, the Chapter Hospitality Suite, participation in Third Region Breakfast, ROTC Luncheon, and tables at Eisenhower Luncheon and Marshall Dinner for our guest Soldiers. The Chapter assists in coordination of transportation and accommodations for Team Redstone Soldiers and NCOs who were selected for yearly recognition. The Chapter provides running attire for Team Redstone teams and co-hosts with the Wiregrass Chapter an Alabama HOOAH Tent for the Army Ten Miler.
g) Education Seminar Series: Chapter sponsors and hosts spring and fall Education Seminar. These are free to the membership, conducted to provide timely and important information on Army programs and activities to our membership. By tradition the spring seminar has featured LTG (Ret) Ted Stroup speaking on the Army Budget. We’re planning to feature CSM (Ret) Leroy Bussell speaking on retirement pay and health benefits for the fall seminar.
h) Resolutions Development: Develop resolutions that positively impact the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard, Redstone Arsenal, Anniston Army Depot, the Tennessee Valley Community and AUSA.
i) Chapter Coin Program: The Chapter President awards serial- numbered coins to individuals as special recognition. Blue Star Coins are provided to deploying Soldiers’ families, Veterans and other special individuals who have continued to serve.
j) Shepherds Program: Each Chapter Executive Board Member is a shepherd taking watch over a group of Corporate Members maintaining liaison, facilitating membership renewal and updating the data base as required.
